“I’ve always been taught to dream big”: Mi-Kaisha

25 October 2023

RnB and soul singer Mi-Kaisha is back in Australia and has brought a hard-hitting new single with her.

Called “Eternity”, Mi-Kaisha has produced a brooding, soulful piece which she says is about the resilience of Mob.

“It’s about my lineage,” she says. “It speaks to the strength of our communities, particularly at a really tough time in our community where there was a lot of tension, a lot of heavy conversations.”

“I wanted this song to be a reminder of the joy we have in our communities.”

Mi-Kaisha has spent most of the last few years studying in New York, a city she says she always dreamed about as a child.

She says she’s loved connecting with New York’s Native Mob while she’s been there.

“The biggest thing that’s kept me in New York is connecting with the Native Mob and building that community that I really miss when I’m off Country and away from home and family.”

Mi-Kaisha is in Sydney and will be coming to Koori Radio’s studio in Redfern to chat to BrothaBlack this Friday afternoon.

She’ll also perform an intimate set — you can apply to be in the audience here.

Tune into Blackchat on Koori Radio 93.7 FM or on the Koori Radio app every weekday morning from 0900am – 1200pm AEDT.
