Legendary Aboriginal Rights activist Michael Mansell has declared that Australia will vote “No” in Saturday’s upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum.
“It’s all done and dusted,” Chair of the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania told Koori Radio’s Lola Forester.
“The Voice Referendum will be defeated on Saturday. 10 million people will vote against the Voice.”
Mr Mansell says the country needs to look beyond the referendum and says common ground exists between “No” and “Yes” campaigners, many of whom agree on the need to improve the lives of Aboriginal people, even if they disagree with the way forward.
“How do we harness the enormous amount of good will to put pressure on the Prime Minister to start discussing a Treaty and getting on with the job?” Mr Mansell asked.
Recent polling shows an uptick in support for a Voice to Parliament, although data shows a clear majority of Australians still intend to vote “No”.
