Eminent Worimi historian John Maynard has called for a truth telling process to begin in the wake of the failed Voice to Parliament Referendum.
Australians last month voted against the proposal, which would have enshrined an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in the constitution.
“Where we go next is truth telling,” Professor Maynard told Koori Radio’s Lola Forester.
“If you look at the recent referendum, one of the big shocks to me is the reality that most people in this country don’t know the history of the last 230 odd years.”
“That’s the big hurdle we’ve got to get over.”
Professor Maynard says efforts should be put into educating Australians — Black and white — about this country’s history.
